Why are they called SPREADS instead of JAMS?
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, a
"jam" or "preserve" must contain a minimum of 65% total carbohydrates
(fruit sugar plus added sweetener). Typical supermarket jam contains at
least this amount, comprised of natural fruit sugar and added sugar or
sugar substitute such as corn syrup or concentrated grape juice.
Rogaland Fruit Spreads are produced with the idea that the berry, not the
sugar, should be the predominate taste. Because Rogaland products contain
approximately 30% less sugar than standard jams or preserves, they are
called "fruit spreads" in the United States.
